Forth of July in Vernal...

VERNAL??? Seems like a weird place to go on vacation in Utah right? Well - the kids are really into dinosaurs and it seemed like a great little get away. We stayed at the KOA up there in one of their family cabins, which I have to admit I was nervous about... seemed a bit hill billy but ended up being really nice. The weather was great, not too hot. Grandma and Grandpa Steck drove up and joined in the fun, it's nice to get to go on vaca's with them and have those memories.

The first day we kinda just bummed around - bought grocery's and went to the dinosaur museum for about 2 hours and the kids enjoyed it. I think Preston likes them the most, but Westie comes in a close second.

On Saturday we went up to flaming gorge to fish and then watch their firework show. The kids played around on the grass and tried hard to be patient enough for the fireworks to start. Once they finally did they didn't disappoint. The traffic going back down wasn't too bad really - with all things considered which made a perfect ending.

You cannot go to Vernal without going to the park - we had a great time traveling there... watching Grandpa Paul follow a silver truck off the highway, to back roads and into a baptist church parking lot... Darren and I were laughing hysterically as we followed behind knowing that Grandpa thought he was follow us...  ahhhhh, that's a memory to recall at family dinners :) Once we got him following the right truck we arrived at that park, did the self tour and then went to the quarry.... scratch that, the quarry is closed... didn't know that! So we took a walk to the side of the quarry where you can see fossils still in the rock - I would have walked by then 500 times and never known they were there.

The pics above are of a cabin built by a widow who wanted to be out on her own, raised her children there, had a farm... amazing pioneer. The cabin is still in amazing shape for being so old.

Of course because we had a pool at the KOA, all the boys wanted to do was SWIM... which ended up being fine with me and made a relaxing time. Weston figured out how to use a life jacket and would swim around on his own, Preston is a fish and Bryson got the courage to jump into the deep end. Perfectly sunny days for swimming.

Back at the cabin eating peanuts with Grandma and Grandpa - Darren always talks about his grandfather and the "food" he would eat, I hope my kids recall the same thing. The cabin was nice and made for a cheep food experience being able to cook on our own.

And of course we had to watch the forth of July parade being held on Monday as we headed home. I've never been to a small town parade - it was much funner than our big town one. Listening to people around us, knowing everyone in the parade and such... super fun. The boys loved getting squirted with the water and all the candy that got thrown. A perfect last hora before we headed back home.

Thanks for a fun weekend my boys - I love watching them enjoy life, play at the parks and find a new found love for the outdoors. Thanks to G-ma and G-pa Steck for coming up to enjoy the weekend with us. A wonderful weekend and great memories, I would actually go back to VERNAL for a get away again :)
