Wednesday - St. Lucia

Ok, this island made both Darren and I sick, car sick. This is a very mountainous island and the roads are just two cars wide and steep and 90 degree turns everywhere. With all the up and down up and down twist and turn up and down, in the back of a taxi... you get sick quick! Just when we were thinking ok - stop! we did and would get just enough solid ground to get to the next stop.
This island is very low income and it is sad to see that an entire family lives in a house the size of my living room. Most families survive off the fish they catch or they drive into the city to work at local resorts or taxi drive. This island humbled me and made me so grateful for what I have in my life. Found out today that unless you ask for the US currency amount you pay the eastern Caribbean currency which was $2.60 to our $1.00 - boy we could have used that information yesterday!

All the lighter green down in the valley is a banana plantation, something like 1600 acres of bananas. That is their largest export

On our way back into town, I love the colors of the homes. it add so much character

This is the beach we ended up on, I think it was called Rodney Bay. Not great snorkeling here. The water is a different color than at Barbados... but still so pretty!

This boat was so funny, a local in a 8 ft boat full of flags to provide him shade. he had a cooler and would drive around to everyone in the water to sell them drinks.

We went to the ice show tonight which was pretty good, we aren’t ice skater fans but it was amazing what they did in the small area they had. We then went to the theater to watch the Love and Marriage game show. This was hilarious; they took a newlywed, a couple married 27 years and a couple married 52 years. It was just like the show “Newlyweds” that used to be on. They sent the girls off and asked the guys questions and then the girls came back to answer them, and then the guys went out… it was so funny. The cruise director – Casey – did such a good job and was really funny. It was a good day, but long and we tuckered out around Midnight.
